Relationships and Sex Education and Health Education (RSHE)
This page supports schools and settings to navigate the government funded support to develop whole-school approaches to an effective provision. Many settings choose to teach PSHE which includes economic wellbeing and preparation for the world of work as well as the statutory RSHE topics. We have included some content to support the teaching of the additional PSHE themes.
Norfolk schools and settings can access a range of high-quality, fully funded CPD and resources that support the implementation of statutory RSHE. The website features:
- One-minute guides: Signposting to nationally available, accredited CPD and resources that secure compliance with key guidance and legislation.
- Bite-sized briefings: Providing timely and relevant information and tips on topics such as Safer Internet Day, and Gypsy, Roma, Traveller Culture: RSHE.
- Pol-Ed: A PSHE resource, funded for Norfolk schools and educational settings, that support teachers with unique sessions that develop children's understanding, resilience and willingness to support each other.
We also offer fully-funded training for RSHE leads.
Our locally delivered in-person CPD: Contextualised and tailored training sessions for new to role (RSHE Now! Primary, or RSHE Now! Secondary) and established RSHE Leads (RSHE Next! Primary, or RSHE Next! Secondary).
This is delivered by an RSHE Adviser will ensure your school has everything it needs to be fully compliant with the updated guidance.
RSHE Now will enable you to:
- Stay compliant and evidence-based: Understand and apply the DfE's latest RSHE statutory guidance, including age-appropriate content, transparency with parents, and topics like misogyny, toxic influences, personal safety and technological risks. Use consistent, evidence-based teaching and assessment strategies.
- Engage the whole school community: Involve students, families, and staff in shaping RSHE provision. Build strong stakeholder engagement to ensure the curriculum reflects the needs and values of your school community.
- Develop and implement a whole-school strategy: Audit current RSHE provision, design a compliant and tailored curriculum and policy, and create an action plan that supports your school's vision, values, safeguarding duties, and equality obligations.
RSHE Next will build on RSHE Now, enabling you to:
- Embed RSHE across school culture: Integrate RSHE into the school's ethos and daily practice using practical, inclusive activities that reflect the needs of all pupils, including those with SEND. Explore how knowledge, skills and values taught in RSHE about emotional regulation, physical and mental health, healthy relationships, savvy and safe online habits can be embedded can help your pupils feel protected, connected, respected and included.
- Strengthen staff and family involvement: Deliver CPD to build staff confidence and skills in teaching RSHE and engage families to support learning at home and trust the curriculum.
- Monitor, adapt, and demonstrate impact: Use assessment and monitoring tools to tailor RSHE to emerging challenges, measure its effectiveness, and showcase outstanding provision to Ofsted.
