School clusters
There is a long-standing school cluster system in Norfolk. There are 46 clusters. Each one usually has one high school and a number of primary schools. There is also a discreet cluster for the Roman Catholic schools across the county.
A cluster lead chairs regular meetings of headteachers within the cluster. Effective clusters support system leadership by:
- Identifying joint improvement priorities
- Responding to these collaboratively
There are many good examples of schools working together, for example:
- By peer observation of teaching and learning
- By joint curriculum development
- Sharing staff such as Parent Support Advisers, SENCOs or subject leaders
- Joint continuing professional development
Some clusters are developing structural ties, such as a Trust and Schools Company, to secure a strong foundation for this work.
