Statutory Assessment: Senior Leader briefings
You can still book onto the programmes and attend the remaining sessions even though the first briefings have already occurred.
These briefings will equip headteachers, senior leaders and assessment leads and those operationally responsible for assessment in their setting with a clear understanding of their responsibilities regarding statutory assessment throughout the primary phase for 2024- 2025. The briefings will comprise teacher assessment requirements, LA moderation processes and school moderation requirements, testing, access arrangements, and requirements for reporting to LA and to parents.
Overview of sessions
There are three briefings during the academic year:
- Briefing 1 (completed): This first session provided an overview of the statutory assessment responsibilities for 2024-25 and detail of the assessment actions to be taken over the first term. A round-up of statutory moderation from 2024 was provided along with some curriculum reflections and considerations to ensure accurate assessment in 2024-2025 and development of an enabling curriculum for writing. We shared details of training this year to support accurate annual teacher assessment of writing. An overview of the briefings that will be happening to support the statutory tests and checks including the phonics screening check and the multiplication tables check was also shared.
- Briefing 2 : Focusing on responsibilities regarding statutory teacher assessment, checks and testing throughout the primary age range. Colleagues will be taken through the resources available to them to support effective planning of in-school processes, including checklists for statutory test and check administration and considerations for robust moderation conversations within and between schools.
- Briefing 3 : Focusing on final preparation for statutory teacher assessment, checks and testing throughout the primary age range, including and overview data submission, school delegated access arrangements, and the LA statutory moderation process. Colleagues will be taken through the resources available to them to support effective in-school processes.
After each briefing you will receive electronic documents: a pack of statutory guidance documents and other useful documentation and resources will be available to colleagues via a Padlet link.
