Information

We're pleased to be able to share His Majesty's Inspectorate of Probation report into Norfolk Youth Justice Service. You will see that inspectors judged the service as good overall, with some outstanding features.

The HMIP  issued a press release using the words "creative" and "motivated" to describe our services and staff, as well as highlighting our child-centred approach to youth justice in the county. The report is a really positive one, which emphasises our focus on putting the needs of children at the heart of all of our practice.

You may be particularly interested to see the section on partnerships and services, in which we received a rating of "good." Inspectors said statutory partners "work cohesively to provide services to children," with "the governance and structures for addressing exploitation and serious youth violence at a partnership level,"  described as "strong."  Health provision was also described as "strong." This is testament to the strength of partnership working in Norfolk.

Inspectors highlighted the dedication of colleagues working in the service, who go "above and beyond" what is required to support the children and young people they work with. I would like to thank those colleagues and all of those who work to support the service and were involved in the inspection, including those working across education.

Of course, inspections also provide us with a welcome opportunity to learn and focus on what could be even better and HMIP highlighted some areas including post-court assessments, ensuring more opportunities for high quality education, training and employment, and using the views of victims to better inform our work.  We will now be developing an action plan, which we will share with HMIP by 14 February.
