Trauma and attachment
Through the extension of the Virtual School Head role to include Children with a Social Worker (Virtual school head role extension to children with a social worker - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)) we are working to meet these new duties by:
- Making visible the disadvantages that children with a social worker can experience, enhancing partnerships between education settings and local authorities to help all agencies have high aspirations for these children and young people.
- Promoting practice that supports children and young people's engagement in education, recognising that attending an education setting can be an important factor in keeping them safe from harm.
- Working to level up children and young people's outcomes and narrow the attainment gap so every child can reach their potential.
Along with our existing cohorts of children in care and previously in care, we understand that building understanding of trauma and attachment aware practices within education helps professionals to understand lived experiences of our children and young people and how it may present and impact them within the classroom. Our tiered offer of support ensures we have universal professional development opportunities to engage in for professionals in education and social care who are supporting these cohorts. Our targeted and bespoke tiers have been developed to offer schools autonomy and accountability for securing training opportunities for their staff that will positively impact the outcomes for children and young people supported by the Virtual School.
In our attachment section, you will find details of our offer and how these can be accessed. For any queries relating to Children with a Social Worker please contact virtual.schoolscwsw@norfolk.gov.uk.
