Tracking guidance
The Early Years Service has developed guidance to support early years and childcare providers with the development and use of secure systems to track children's progress. Guidance is also given to support parents', carers' and practitioners' understanding of the importance of assessment.
There is no 'one way' of tracking but each setting should develop a system that accurately reflects the needs of individual children and groups attending.
In the guidance there are a variety of tracking examples, with case studies, which will be helpful in developing or enhancing systems for tracking.
The documents can be used in several ways:
- As a whole for settings that have not yet set up a tracking system
- In sections for use by settings new to tracking
- As an evaluation tool for settings that have a confident approach to tracking and a system in place
- To support staff and setting development
