What is a PEP

All looked after children accessing education must have a care plan of which the PEP record is the statutory document used when planning for the education of Looked After Children.

The PEP is an evolving record of what needs to happen for looked-after children to enable them to make at least expected progress and fulfil their potential. The PEP feeds into the statutory care planning framework, in collaboration with the social worker, independent reviewing officer, carer and other relevant professionals and it should reflect the importance of a personalized approach to learning that meets the child' identified educational needs, raises aspirations and builds life chances. The PEP includes information to help with conversations, planning and the delivery of strategies required to ensure the child / young person gets the support and provision needed to succeed.  It is written by the professionals as part of the child's / young person overall care plan.

However it is the young person's document, even though we might fill out the record. You should always write the PEP record in the same way as you would speak to the young person and their views must be reflected in the plan.
