Bright Torches is a group of actors, directors and writers who have come together, under the leadership of founder and lead practitioner Tom Davey, to provide workshops that support the academic, social and emotional development of young people and also provide teachers with activities for immediate use in the classroom to develop spoken literacy and written responses.

The link below will take you to an overview of their workshops and projects for all Primary School year groups, and also some details of The Merry Wanderers Transition Project from a Primary perspective.  They work with 3-18 year olds, and with their teachers, supporting spoken literacy and providing dynamic and engaging experiences inspired by their own backgrounds in theatres.  Bright Torches aim to ignite a love of stories, spark personal responses and develop critical thinking.  Bright Torches also regularly runs CPD for the English & Media Centre and supports English PGCE programmes across the UK including the UEA and The University of Oxford.

'It was fantastic to see you at work - the way that you captivated the children's attention and supported them to think more deeply about the power of words, of speech and of action was wonderful to behold.  Thank you very much indeed.'

Nicholas Gilding, Headteacher, Cotford St Luke Primary School, Somerset, UK
