The purpose of this section is to provide an overview of the legislative framework within in which the Local Authority, schools and colleges need to fulfil their responsibilities for safeguarding children.

Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) should ensure that key messages about the law are regularly provided to all members of the school or college community to ensure they understand what this means for them.
