Norfolk, Essex, Suffolk Teacher Training (NESTT)
Norfolk, Essex and Suffolk Teacher Training (NESTT) is an exciting new school centred initial teacher training (SCITT) provider formed from a merger of established providers BEC Teacher Training and Suffolk and Norfolk SCITT. We have training bases across the three counties and work with around 175 schools from Kings Lynn to Southend - and most places in between!
With the current issues around teacher supply, it is vital to recruit an increased number of trainees to ensure our young people get the education they deserve. Applications for training courses starting in September 2025 are now open.
Recruitment of trainee teachers is becoming increasingly challenging but there are a few ways you can help us which will help protect the pipeline of new teachers coming into schools.
1. Advertising our Programme within Your Wider School Community:
- Please add information about training to teach with NESTT onto your website or your newsletters. (Sample text available on request). We regularly use social media to advertise events - so if you could follow us and share our messages that would be very helpful too.
- Twitter / X @nestt_ITT
- LinkedIn NESTT - Norfolk Essex and Suffolk Teacher Training
- Instagram @nestt_nurture.empower.teach
- Tiktok @nestt_teacher_training
- Facebook NESTT - Norfolk Essex and Suffolk Teacher Training
Our next information events are online on 21 November and 12 December.
We can also arrange to come to speak to a group of potential applicants in your school or across your trust if that would be helpful.
2. Offering Placements for Trainee Teachers:
- You could also support us by offering to host trainees on placement. Although we have most of the placements we need for this year, we are already working to secure placements for next academic year. There are a number of reasons why engaging in ITT is beneficial for schools. These include:
- Supporting staff recruitment - having a trainee can give schools early access to potential new staff.
- The benefit from having an additional adult within the classroom, supporting teaching and learning and improving pupil progress.
- Opportunities for staff development for the existing workforce, e.g. coaching skills and access to current evidence base for pedagogy for mentors.
- Opportunities to help shape the training that teachers receive to ensure that it equips them with the necessary skills to become outstanding classroom practitioners.
- The injection of fresh ideas into the workforce, through energetic and enthusiastic people coming into the school who are able to share up-to-date pedagogical knowledge and ideas.
- The Moral Imperative - if schools do not engage in ITT, there will be a reduction in qualified teachers being trained.

We fully appreciate how busy schools are - but we would be extremely grateful for anything you can do to support us.
