Summary
Wraparound childcare is before and after school childcare, such as breakfast club and after school provision running from 8am-6pm Monday - Friday. To meet definition, the childcare should be available every school day outside of regular school hours either on a school site or at another local setting and is aimed at helping parents and carers to access extended childcare and work the hours they want to. This is different from out-of-school activities, or school clubs, which are less frequent and can be one-off activities. Schools may run the provision themselves, or a private, voluntary or independent provider may also run the wraparound care including childminders and early years settings.
Norfolk County Council has a range of advice and guidance for setting up out of school provision:
Wraparound Development Worker (WDW)
We have a small team of four WDWs that work in clusters. Each school and wraparound provider is allocated a WDW. They are available to offer support and guidance on a range of topics. The Wraparound team can be contacted via email.
Provider Portal
The Provider Portal is a gateway to Norfolk County Council's systems for submitting and updating provider information, sufficiency data, recording staff details and booking courses and events. Newly registered providers can email the Family Information Service to obtain details to access the portal.
Family Information Service/Norfolk Community Directory
Newly registered providers can email the Family Information Service to obtain an ID number to access the Portal.
The Norfolk Community Directory can be used to search for available wraparound provision across the county, being a one stop shop for parents and carers to look for local, suitable provision.
Training
Norfolk County Council, Early Years Learning and Childcare offer a full programme of wraparound training.
Training is bookable via the Portal referenced above.
