Data Sharing Information for Families - Provision of Specialist Equipment for Children and Young People

What is this for?
Norfolk County Council have moved to a new organisation to provide specialist equipment for children and young people within a variety of settings.
The new provider is Medequip. Some families will already be aware or have had contact with Medequip, as our equipment for the homes has been processed through them since 2023.
What will change?
You should not notice a change in the provision, assessment, and requirements of equipment. However, you may notice equipment is monitored, maintained, and serviced on a more regular basis.
The other change will be the way your information is stored and managed.
Medequip use a cloud-based portal for the equipment requested by the OT, physio or other clinician, and your (child/young person/next of kin) information will be stored here. The system is a well-used community equipment site across many Local Authorities with its own Privacy Policy and security measures. This site is a password protected site with only selected clinical and commissioning staff able to access this, along with the Medequip team.
In addition to what is already collected, the types of information collected may change to include the following;
- GP surgeries
- NHS number
- Medical conditions
The information is needed to ensure accurate prescriptions and equipment are provided appropriately and linked to understanding needs.
What do you need to do?
Nothing, if you consent to the moving of your information to the new site for the provision of the specialist equipment.
If you do not consent to your information being moved and added to the new provider system, please contact Highneedscommissioning@norfolk.gov.uk to discuss this by 30 April 2025. If we do not hear from you by this date, we will go ahead with the changes. It is important to be aware that opting out may affect the service provided.
