SEND and Inclusion Support Model Update

FAO: Headteachers, SENDCos , 17 April 2025 08:33
Action

Over the Spring Term, the SEND and Inclusion Support Model has delivered Team Around the School (TAS) meetings in the first two zones and has started preparations for the second phase of the roll out, which sees the next six zones coming online this term.  As part of these preparations, Phase 2 zones held their first Zone Inclusion Partnership (ZIP) Meetings and have booked in their initial TAS meetings for this term.

As we move into the Summer Term, we wanted to share with you some of the feedback we have received which will play a key role in developing the model this term.

Positive feedback from schools about the model has included:

  • The SEND and Inclusion Support Line is quick and effective.
  • The variety of county council services attending TAS meetings is having a positive impact as it allows schools to address multiple issues in a single meeting .
  • Consistency of the zone teams has helped build trust and familiarity.
  • Meeting actions have been implemented promptly.

Feedback on areas which could be improved has included:

  • Requests for more school influence over meeting agendas.
  • More opportunities to discuss individual children.
  • Recommendation to include health professionals, such as NDS or SALT within the model.

Zones have also put forward suggestions for future topics to include in ZIP agendas. These include:

  • Current practices around EHCPs.
  • Transitions.
  • Speech and language support.
  • Clarity of support available around children at risk of exclusion.
  • Proposals for collaborative approaches to managing student absences.

We will be using the themes and reflections identified from each ZIP and subsequently incorporating these into next steps and activity to benefit the partnership and practices within zones.

Thank you to all who attended ZIP meetings in Zones Phase 1 & 2. Your contributions were valuable and will shape future discussions.

For more information on the roll out of the model please see the  SEND and Inclusion Support Model on the schools website.

We are committed to ensuring that the SEND and Inclusion Support Model continues to evolve in response to your feedback. Thank you for your ongoing support and participation.
