Prejudice-based incident reporting for the academic year now due

All schools are required to submit a prejudice-based incident report for the academic year, covering the period from September 2023 to July 2024. This includes a nil return, which means that schools must report even if they have not recorded any incidents in that period.

Prejudice-based incidents are any incidents that are perceived to be motivated by prejudice or hate towards a person's protected characteristic, such as race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or age. These incidents can affect anyone within the school community, including pupils, staff, parents, carers, governors, or visitors.

Prejudice-based incident reporting is an important part of the local authority's and schools' duty to promote equality and diversity, and to ensure the safety and well-being of all members of the school community, as part of its equality and diversity duties. The local authority appreciates the cooperation and commitment of schools in submitting their reports by the deadline.  This helps to provide a general overview of the prevalence and nature of such incidents, and to enable effective planning of preventative and responsive approaches to support schools with their work in promoting a culture of respect and inclusion for all.

You can find out more about prejudice based incident reporting here, including a link to the submission form.
