Norfolk Plant Heritage £500 Young Gardeners' Award

For Staff

Background

Jan Paulger was a Norfolk head teacher, who, on retirement, established Norfolk Plant Heritage the local branch of the national plant conservation charity Plant Heritage.

Following Jan's death in 2014, the Norfolk Plant Heritage Group has continued to commemorate her achievements in education and gardening by providing a sum of £500 to assist with a primary school gardening project. Schools in Norfolk have already benefitted from the award, purchasing various items including a greenhouse, cloches, tools, seeds and plants. So, if your school needs help with gardening projects why not apply.

Applying for the £500 Jan Paulger Young Gardeners' Award

Who?

Any Norfolk state funded primary school which is either actively engaged in gardening with pupils or which intends to make a start. Unsuccessful applicants from previous years are not excluded from re-application.

What?

The money must primarily be used for the future purchase of equipment, plants, seeds or other materials/projects directly related to pupils' gardening experience. It cannot be used for recouping money already spent on a gardening project.

How?

Tell us the scope of the project, including how pupils will benefit. Please be specific in your aims i.e. what you wish to purchase or how you will use the money. For any individual item costing over £50, a quotation must be attached. You should also include any existing school curriculum statements which underline the school's commitment to outdoor education and how this award would consolidate and extend the existing work/ideas. Applications will only be considered if fully supported with the relevant information. Please submit the application, in no more than 250 words, on school headed paper with the proposal countersigned by the Head Teacher and Chair of Governors. The successful school will be asked to provide a short evaluation of the project after a year.
